Word N Sound #PoetryLeague returns after sold-out season premiere
The Market Theatre Lab, 7 March 2014
Johannesburg’s premier youth poetry platform returns for another month of scintillating poetry slam. At the helm of developing and unearthing new talent in the local poetry scene, Word N Sound has shown a consistent and enduring commitment to finding and nurturing South Africa’s unsung writers.
“We take great pride in helping young writers realize the power of their work. If we can show them that every poem heals itself through abandoned lines that find home as mantras in the personal lives of the people they touch, then they learn from a very young age not to be careless with their words”, said Managing Director Qhakaza Mthembu.
Nothing rings more true about the WNS #PoetryLeague stage than the notion that you are only as good as your last performance. A code each poet is encouraged to live by, ensuring a better quality performance at every show. Season 5’s debut show saw 3 newcomers to the #PoetryLeague introduce themselves to the Word N Sound faithful by making it to the Top 5. They will need to bring their A-game if they intend to keep their places in Episode 2.
The scene has been set for old names to settle new grudges. Headlining the show will be one of last season’s most fierce competitors, the talismanic Zéwande Bk. Bhengu – whose tear jerking poems are a unique blend of his intense passion for words and a dramatic flair that culminates in countless flawless performances. Have we mentioned that he will also be defending the #1 Spot in the #PoetryLeague!
With the holiday season a distant memory, Episode 2 of Season 5’s #PoetryLeague promises to be a no-holds-barred poetry show down. Don’t miss out on all the action, get there early to save yourself a seat.
Doors open at 12:00pm, tickets cost R50 at the door and space is limited.
