Directed by Thando Mgqolozana and curated by Panashe Chigumadzi, the inaugural Abantu Book Festival will be held in Soweto from 6 – 10 December, and by the looks of the line up, this is an event not to be missed.
Themed Our Stories, the literary festival lineup includes incredible storytellers across a number of disciplines including spoken word, visual arts, film, music and written word.
“It will explore the many ways in which our stories are told, and how these inform, or are informed by, our ways of being”, the press release said.
The all star lineup includes names such as NoViolet Bulawayo, Pumla Dineo Gqola, Natalia Molebatsi, Lebo Mashile, Don Mattera, Florence Masebe, Khaya Dlanga, Dr Wally Serote, Lesego Rampolokeng, Thandiswa Mazwai and Vangi Gantsho, who will all be engaging audiences with workshops, performances and dialogues.
“Some of our authors have been telling stories for as long as some others have been alive, while others have just begun but are bringing incredible innovations to the art. Together with our storytellers, we’ll be looking black to the future”, the festival curator, Panashe said.
Keep a look out for the full schedule, which will be made available in November.
