A sneak peek into the #WNSAwards

The Word N Sound Poetry League, famous for putting together amazing and diverse performers on one stage, has provided a unique showcase of some of the greatest poems and talented artists over the years and this year will be no different.

‘Glamour up. Saddle up. Buckle up and LET’S GO!’ seems the theme for Episode 1 as Season 7 gets off to a sparkling start. The #WNSAwards highlight the best moments from last season’s biggest superstars and hottest emerging talent. This year’s ceremony will host two visitors to our stage; Andrea Spisto from the UK and Kwazi Ndlangisa a talented writer and performer from Durban.

The Awards, which have become the season curtain raiser in recent years, include Poet of the Year, which goes to the poet who finished top of the League last Season and Poetry League Champion taken by the winner of last Season’s finale.
Other Award nomination categories include the Athol E Williams Award, Best Newcomer, Best Showcase, Innovation in Poetry, Perfect Poem, and Word N Sound Honours.

Two of the poets nominated for a Perfect Poem Award, Xabiso Vili and Thobani Mntambo, will be gracing the stage this Saturday for live performances. Xabiso’s new album will also be available for sale at the show.

The first #PoetryLeague episode bodes well for another fantastic year of poetry and collaboration, and promises to be one crazy ride. Episode 1 features the WNS Awards, the #PoetryLeague Slam, a Cypher Komplete showcase (Afurakan and Cyrus Beats have promised us something different from the last time they blew us away).

The great thing about being a company of artists, is that every now and then, even the shareholders come out to play. We’re looking forward to Mpho Khosi, Mutinta Bbenkele and Mandisa Vundla.

If you are as excited as we are about Something Soweto’s upcoming album launch at the Soweto Theatre on 25 Feb, then you’ll be pleased to know that this ground-breaking artist will also be performing at the #WNSAwards.

Tickets to the show are only R50 at the door so bring a friend and tell them to bring another. If you’re feeling lucky, take part in our quiz and you could win double tickets to the show.
