This is what Masai Sepuru, Clear, Soetry, Linda Masilela and Mjele Msimang brought to the opening round of the Word N Sound Poetry League slam finale.
I fucked up my second performance because of the pressure of beginner’s luck plus I started the season late….catching up has been the biggest challenge.
My Poetry League journey has been like a wave – there were times I felt like hiding beneath sand, all calm, but because I am Solly, stubborn, I had to prove to myself that I can push to the shores.
What has kept me coming back is my belief that my work opens conversations and insight into perspectives and avenues of thought that are typically discouraged or not explored.
The Poetry League has been a roller coaster ride. The level of poetry and competition that takes place at Word n Sound can be straining yet rewarding at the same time.
I’ve learned that every story is valid and it’s our responsibility as poets to tell those stories. It is more than an exercise in vocabulary but a transcription of feelings.
The Word N Sound Poetry League is certainly heating up…can you feel it? Also, how phenomenal was our introduction to Sio and her music? Then there was Sibusiso Ndebele’s showcase…a truly memorable show!
