Split This Rock | JHB meets DC

MandlenkosiMandlenkosi “Kosi” Dunn at the Gold Mine Cafe

Split This Rock (US) brought six student poets and three adult teaching artists from Washington, DC to Tshwane and Johannesburg, South Africa, for a two-week experiential education journey focused on poetry and movements for social justice.

Fly Language, K(no)w Boundaries challenged students to identify boundaries and limitations youth face in Tshwane, Johannesburg, and DC and to use creative language and performance to motivate and inspire action to overcome these obstacles.

Split This Rock partnered with Word N Sound for this program and hosted a series of shows and workshops  featuring the DC Artists: (Teacher Artists)  Clint Smith, Eliazabeth Acevedo, Jonathan B, Tucker, Brandon Douglas. (Student poets) Mandlenkosi “Kosi” Dunn, Thomas “Vocab” Hill, Asha Gardner, Cici Felton and Lauren “Grammar” May.
